Before your service visit

Dryer Not Heating?

A turning drum does not prove that the heating system is working. Check that a heated cycle is selected and the lint screen is clear. No heat and slow drying are different symptoms; both may need a service visit.

Safe checks before you book

A dryer that stays cold and a dryer that heats but takes several cycles need different checks. Tell Nikolai whether the drum turns, whether you feel heat during normal use and when the problem began.

  • Read the cycle and temperature selection. Air-only, fluff and cool-down settings may use no heat. Consult the manual for sensor, eco and heat-pump cycle behavior.
  • With the dryer stopped and cool, remove lint from the user-accessible lint screen as the manual describes. Note whether the previous load was unusually large or came out of the washer very wet.
  • Describe the vent route if the dryer uses an exterior exhaust. From a safe, ground-level position, note visible damage or blockage at an accessible outlet; do not climb onto a roof or pull the machine out.

What the symptom can tell us

Drum turns, but there is no heat

Settings, the power or fuel supply, and heating controls may be involved. A running electric dryer can still have a supply problem; electrical and gas checks belong to a qualified professional.

There is heat, but drying takes too long

Airflow restrictions, load size, very wet clothes and cycle selection can affect drying time. The symptom does not automatically mean a failed heater.

Ventless or heat-pump dryer

These models do not use the same exterior vent arrangement as a conventional vented dryer. Send the model number so cleaning and service advice matches the machine.

What to tell your technician

  • Does the drum turn normally?
  • Is there no heat or does drying simply take longer?
  • Is the machine gas or electric, if known?
  • Does the exhaust vent exit through a wall or roof, and how many stories is the home?

How the visit helps

The appliance’s heating and operating systems are assessed along with the reported airflow concern. Dryer repair and exterior vent cleaning are different services; Nikolai explains which work is indicated and its price before approval.
